Smishing Alert (SMS Phishing)

Smishing is a type of phishing attack using SMS messages to deceive recipients into sharing personal information. Derived from "SMS" and "phishing," it often involves messages posing as reputable sources to exploit trust or induce urgency. Often the sender will induce the recipient into buying gift cards as well, doing this by trying to appear as if from a position of authority. Please see the example below.

NOTE: Do not engage with contacts you are not expecting text messages from. Make sure you block the sender, report the smishing incident to IT Security (phishing@fairfield.edu), and delete the message.
