Fairfield University students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members are invited to join for a fireside chat discussion with Fairfield alumnus Chris Pilkerton ‘95, SBA Acting Administrator and General Counsel of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Q&A will be led by Dean Zhan Li and Dr. Chris Huntley, director of the Fairfield StartUp entrepreneurship program.
Chris Pilkerton is an advocate for America’s small businesses and works to connect entrepreneurs to the resources they need to start, grow and expand businesses of their own. As the Acting Administrator and leader of the SBA, Chris Pilkerton is the voice for 30 million small businesses across the country that drive our nation’s economy.
Prior to his time with the SBA, Pilkerton was a compliance director at JP Morgan Chase. Pilkerton began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan. He later went on to become Senior Counsel at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He has served on the Board of Directors of NASDAQ Futures, Inc., and was the Associate Director of the Law and Public Policy Program at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. He was a Fulbright Teaching Scholar in Poland.
Pilkerton holds a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs; a law degree from the Catholic University of America; a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University; and a certificate in data analytics from Cornell University’s College of Business.
The program will explore:
- Chris Pilkerton’s experience as a student at Fairfield, how it helped prepare him for the future, and how he extended that experience to his expansive career and current role.
- SBA resources available to America’s entrepreneurs and even students at Fairfield.
- The importance of and SBA’s role in:
- Entrepreneurship and strengthening local and national economies
- Increasing the entrepreneurial spirit of our nation, small business optimism, and continuing to grow America’s workforce
- Keeping the United States on a level playing field with other countries in regards to trade and manufacturing
