Re-Imagining Assessment for a ChatGPT World

In this three-hour session, the CAE will follow up on the various conversations and workshops that were held throughout the Spring semester on the topic of ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence. With a number of months of experience – not to mention a number of months for the technology to have improved – it seems like it might be time to take a deeper dive into where we stand with this extraordinary new technology. Our day will include a combination of discussions, hands-on exercises with prompts and responses, a discussion around developing guidelines for student use of these tools, and finally, re-thinking a current assessment in light of AI’s capacities. By the end of the day, we hope to be able to bring everyone to a point comfort with the existence of - and hopefully the use of - ChatGPT in their summer or fall classes. 

Prior to the day of the event we will circulate a short reading or two so you can arrive prepared to begin the work. Course Design Institute

Date: Tuesday, May 23rd - Wednesday, May 24th

The Center for Academic Excellence is pleased to offer our course design institute to assist faculty in the development and revision of their courses. The institute engages participants in a collaborative and hands-on process for rethinking or designing their courses from their objectives to their assessments. Throughout the institute, we will incorporate best practices for anti-racist and inclusive pedagogy, active learning and authentic assessment practices, and technology integration. Writing Retreat

Date: Thursday, May 25th

Join the CAE and a community of colleagues for a day-long writing retreat on Thursday, May 25, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m - lunch included! Plan, begin, revise, or complete writing projects (e.g., manuscripts, books, syllabi, reports, portfolios/dossiers). Share and report on your writing goals, consult with peers or CAE staff about any stage of your writing process, or use the time for some solo writing.
