Date: 05-02-2023

Time: 07:00 PM

Location: Zoom

Join us for the latest installment in our virtual spirituality series, "Alumni Stories: Lives That Inspire." The third event in this series, which was designed to explore the lives of alumni whose paths were influenced by their Jesuit education, will feature a conversation between Rev. Gerald Blaszczak, S.J., alumni chaplain and special assistant to the president, and Dr. Robert Parmach '98, a member of Fairfield's Class of 1998.

Robert J. Parmach, PhD serves as the inaugural Director of Ignatian Mission Initiatives in the Office of the Vice President for Mission Integration and Ministry at Fordham University, where he also teaches philosophy and theology.

A native of New York, Rob graduated from Xavier High School. He earned the BA in philosophy with classics distinction from Fairfield University, where he ran cross-country and track and served as a Eucharistic minister, and then earned his MA and PhD from Fordham University. He started his career in student affairs as a counselor and peer educator before becoming academic dean of first-year students at Fordham College at Rose Hill. There he served as faculty director of its Manresa Scholars integrated learning community for first year students and coordinator of the West Wing Ignatian leadership & civic service program for sophomores. Professor Parmach’s teaching and scholarship highlight practical applications of philosophy and theology and Jesuit education. He’s served on the student life committee of Xavier High School and advisory board of Contemplative Leaders in Action in the Office of Ignatian Spirituality of the USA East Province of the Society of Jesus. For over twenty years, during the first week in June, Rob, along with Fordham students and young alumni, has served at Camp Friendship, an apostolate for foster children in rural Mississippi. An avid runner and proud uncle, Dr. Parmach’s work has been published widely, most recently in Conversations on Jesuit Higher Education, and he’s currently writing a user-friendly brief book titled Nothing is More Practical: A Month of Faith Reflections in the Ignatian Tradition, an idea his graduating students gave him.
