Summer Hours, Summer Flex, and '23-'24 Holiday Schedule
Summer Hours
We are pleased to announce that Fairfield University will once again implement a modified weekly work schedule for the summer months beginning Monday, May 22, 2023, and ending on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Unless otherwise determined by your Department, summer office hours are:
Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. = 7 3/4 hours (45 min. lunch)
Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. = 4.0 hours (no lunch)
These times may differ for employees working a 40 hour schedule.
Summer Flexible Schedule Program
For 2023, the Flexible Work Schedule Program will be made available to non-exempt, hourly employees only. Under this program, hourly-paid employees may elect to take additional time off during the summer months, which serves to promote flexibility and work-life balance for employees who may wish to take additional time off without using paid time.
Interested employees may request time off without pay during the months of June, July or August. If the requested time off is approved by your supervisor, the University will continue medical insurance, life insurance and disability coverage during the non-work period in accordance with the employee’s normal work schedule. Employees are responsible for health care, flexible spending, and supplemental life deductions accrued during this time. Tuition benefits and vacation accruals will also continue based on your normal work schedule. Regular paychecks and retirement plan contributions will be suspended during this absence.
Please discuss any proposed time off with your immediate supervisor. While there is no guarantee that all requests for a reduced work schedule can be granted in full, effort will be made to balance such requests with the need for departments to sustain operations and maintain adequate coverage.
To request unpaid time off in the summer, please submit your request in Workday via the Absence Worklet using “Unpaid or Summer Flex” for the requested time off type. The request will go to your Manager to approve and then to Human Resources.
