Dr. Jaqueline Jones Royster public lecture

Please join Core Writing for the inaugural Dr. Jacqueline Jones Royster Lecture in BIPOC, Queer, and Feminist Rhetorics on Tuesday, April 18^th, at 6pm in the library multimedia room (lower level). We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Jaqueline Jones Royster, professor emerita at Georgia Institute of Technology, as our inaugural speaker for an in-person lecture titled “Reflections on Our Pursuit of a ‘More Perfect Union’.”

In this presentation, Royster will share some reflections on what she’s learned from the effort and commitment to engage in research and scholarship on the ways in which, historically, African American women have used their rhetorical abilities to participate in and transform the worlds in which they have lived. Directing attention toward intersections among epistemic justice, narrative justice, and social justice, Royster’s focus is on interrogating the challenge in our nation to live up to our bedrock national values:  truth, freedom, justice, equality, and empowerment--for all.  The goal of this lecture is to encourage dialogue about how, as high stakeholding citizens in a deliberately diverse nation, we might figure out how to move forward as a nation with a sustainable commitment to our bedrock values and to peace.
