"Engineering Ethics in a Globalized World” with Dr. Jun Fudano, Waseda University

In this talk, Dr. Fudano, the School of Engineering, and Dolan School of Business will explore the challenges and opportunities that engineers face in a rapidly changing "globalized world." We will make a comparative examination between the United States and Japan to better understand the notion of what it means to be an engineer, with a particular emphasis on the concept of profession. We will also discuss the ethical implications of the evolving nature of engineering practice, as well as the responsibilities that engineers have to "hold paramount the safety, health, and well-being of society" in a globalized world.
Dr. Fudano is a professor at the Center for Higher Education Studies of Waseda University in Tokyo. He has been instrumental in promoting engineering and science ethics education in Japan and has taught at various universities and research institutes. He has worked with a wide variety of national and international engineering bodies to plan and implement curriculum reform and develop new courses, and he has delivered seminars for various technology-based companies including Hitachi, Nikkon, and Mitsubishi Electric. Dr. Fudano received a BA in Liberal Arts (Physics) and MS in Education (Science Education) from International Christian University, Tokyo. He holds a doctorate in the history of science from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma.
