About Vivienne Rowett & Her Work:
Vivienne Rowett’s work is grounded in a sense of sacredness of the natural world, the delight of creating with her hands, and a love of the Bible. “A threefold cord is not easily broken” (Eccles. 4:12). Vivienne’s work is an exegesis (interpretation) of Biblical texts steeped in academic research expressed through the lens of “Women’s Work.” Through her textile work, Vivienne finds her voice, and she challenges the notion of women’s work being valueless. Doing exegesis in textile – or any - medium is to attempt more than illustration. Vivienne's hope is to entice others to delve into the texts with curiosity, and to find there, material to stimulate reflection and delight, understanding and healing.
Vivienne Rowett is an Old Testament/Hebrew Scholar and award-winning artist. She has a master’s degree in Theology from Durham University (UK) and she is active in both academic societies such as The Society for the Old Testament Study, and religious communities. Vivienne has been an Associate Lecturer in Hebrew Bible at Bishop Grosseteste University, an apprentice bookbinder, and artist of distinction at Grimsby College of Art. She won First Prize at the Lancelot Andrewes Art & Photography with her work “A Dress for Sarah and a Dress for Hagar.” Vivienne resides in Lincolnshire, UK.
The event is co-sponsored with Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, Religious Studies, and Visual & Performing Arts.
