Family Day: Family Relationships in Renaissance Art

Join us in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries’ SmArt Classroom for arts & crafts designed for ages 4-10. Children will learn about families during the Italian Renaissance, inspired by Out of the Kress Vaults: Women in Sacred Renaissance Painting, in the Bellarmine Hall Galleries. Activities will include:

• Drawing family hugs

• Family portraits

• Gallery activities

• A photo booth inspired by Italian Renaissance portraits!

Space is limited--please select Session 1 OR Session 2 and register via the link below with how many children are attending. Example: 1 ticket=1 child.

About Out of the Kress Vaults: The exhibition explores representations of femininity and virtue in Italian Renaissance paintings of the Virgin Mary, female saints, and nuns. This exhibition is the first in the museum’s history to be co-curated with Fairfield University students. Taking inspiration from two paintings of the Madonna and Child in the museum’s own Samuel H. Kress Collection, students in Dr. Michelle DiMarzo’s art history seminar developed the exhibition by examining Kress collections at other institutions, with an emphasis on works typically held in storage.
