Urgent Deadline for Student Loan Forgiveness
As a Fairfield University employee, you may qualify for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Temporary Waiver and may be eligible for full forgiveness of your federal student loans – even if your application was previously denied.
TO QUALIFY FOR THE PSLF WAIVER, YOU MUST APPLY BY OCTOBER 31, 2022. The average loan balance forgiven under PSLF is over $60,000 per borrower.
This loan forgiveness program is separate from President Biden’s recently announced student loan cancellation.
In order to qualify for federal student loan forgiveness through the PSLF Waiver, borrowers must meet a number of conditions, including 10 years of work in public service and completing 120 qualifying payments. Even if you do not currently have the full 10 years of service, you should still apply for the PSLF Waiver. Taking these steps will get you closer to debt cancellation if you continue to work in the government or non-profit sector. Check your eligibility immediately by using the help tool at https://www.StudentAid.gov/PSLF.
You will need Fairfield’s IRS Employer Identification Number which is 06-0646623. When you are ready for us to sign the employment verification form, please submit it to Blythe Josovitz in Human Resources at bjosovitz@fairfield.edu. To learn more, visit http://www.pslfCT.org.
