Protecting Your Intellectual Property

Please join Clinical Professor Diane Covello of UConn Law School to learn more about intellectual property and how to protect the intangible intellectual assets of your business. In this seminar, Professor Covello will provide:
* An overview of the major components of intellectual property law: Copyrights, Utility and Design Patents, Trademarks and Trade Secrets
* Examples of the types of intellectual property common to most businesses and how to protect that property
* Information about the Intellectual Property Law Clinic at UConn Law School and the pro bono services available through the clinic

Diane Covello is Co-Director of the IP & Entrepreneurship Law Clinic at UConn Law School. In addition, she is Counsel with the Hartford, Connecticut law firm of Alix, Yale & Ristas, LLP, where she focuses on patent procurement in North America, Europe and Asia.

Attorney Covello has worked in both large and small law firms in Connecticut and Washington, D.C. and spent several years as in-house patent counsel for Spalding Sports Worldwide, managing patent preparation, prosecution, licensing and litigation. The in-house experience provided her with a broad range of opportunities to interact with legal professionals around the globe to protect intellectual property rights.

Attorney Covello earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Kansas in 1985, and a Juris Doctor degree from the Duke University School of Law in 1988. She is a co-inventor of U.S. Patent No. 6,959,280 and U.S. Patent No. 6,018,714 (now expired), both of which relate to Intellectual Property Insurance.
