When it first opened its doors in December 1932, Radio City was the largest theater in the world, offering patrons 6,000 unobstructed seats: unheard of at the time. The theater complex, which includes lavish offices and suites, numerous dressing rooms, and 31 restrooms, was designed by Edward Durell Stone and Donald Deskey in true Art Deco style. Although the theater was initially intended to host lavish stage shows, its true notoriety came from the unique film-and-stage-spectacle format it established in 1933, which continued through the late 1970s.
Today, Radio City Music Hall primarily hosts concerts by leading pop, rock, and classical musicians, as well as live televised events such as the Grammy Awards, the Tony Awards, the Daytime Emmy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, and the annual NFL Draft.
And of course, Radio City Music Hall is perhaps best known for its annual world-famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the Rockettes.
With credits that span the worlds of Broadway, London’s West End, broadcast television, concerts, and corporate events, Steven Rivellino is one of the most successful executive producers and theatrical general managers in the entertainment industry. As the former vice president and general manager of New York’s Radio City Music Hall, he has produced The Grammy Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, and 14 editions of the world-famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes, as well as Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Gloria Estefan. He is currently represented on Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, winner of 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
