Title: Handling Stress: Using stress reappraisal to optimize academic performance
Description:
The college experience can sometimes be a stressful one. Students may be required to present in front of their peers, are tasked with managing deadlines, and are typically given exams that weigh heavily on their grades. This talk will focus on Dr. Hangen's research about interventions for students’ acute stress reactions. She will explain how cardiovascular indices reveal students’ motivationally-attuned stress responses using the biospsychosocial model of challenge and threat.
Dr. Hangen will also discuss her research on stress reappraisal, which is an empirically-validated, brief, and easy-to-implement intervention designed to optimize students' performance in stressful situations.
