Magis Core Lecture and WGSS Keynote, Dr. Carlota Ocampo

The Magis Core Curriculum Committee and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program will bring Dr. Carlota Ocampo, Provost and Associate Professor of Psychology at Trinity Washington University, to give the Magis Core Annual Lecture and WGSS Program Keynote Address. Her talk, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Acknowledging and Addressing the Impacts of Racist Incident-based Trauma,” will be given on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 7 p.m., Alumni House. The lecture is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
In addition, a Faculty Roundtable on racist incident-based trauma will be held the next day, Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 11:00-12:15 p.m., Lower Level, BCC. Dr. Ocampo will respond to and engage in conversation with Dr. Kim Doughty, Dr. Shannon Kelley, and Dr. LaTasha Smith, along with student moderators.
After earning her Ph.D. in neuropsychology from Howard University in 1997, Dr. Ocampo joined the Trinity community as assistant professor of psychology. She has served on many task forces, including those of the American Psychological Association, and has served on the national advisory board for the Steve Fund/Equity in Mental Health Framework for Students of Color in Higher Education.
Her teaching and research interests encompass interactions among diversity, structural inequity, health, and education. She is the author of numerous publications and presentations focused on pedagogical reform with changing student populations, racist-incident based trauma, and ethnicity, gender, and disease.
Faculty are encouraged to share this information with their students and to come together as a community for this important lecture and discussion.
