Join us for the second session of Symposium: The View from Africa: Greco-Roman Antiquity through an African Lens!

Join us on Tuesday, April 12 in the Diffley Board Room of Bellarmine Hall for the symposium presentations and discussions. The speakers include:

• Giovanni Ruffini, PhD, Professor of Classical Studies and History at Fairfield University, presenting Rome in the Ethiopian and Nubian Imagination
• Jessica Lamont, PhD, Assistant Professor of Classics and History at Yale University, presenting Beta Samati & the Aksumite Empire of East Africa: from the Red Sea to the Ancient Mediterranean
• Thelma Thomas, PhD, Associate Professor in the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University, presenting The Cultural Horizons of a Watching Angel in a Wall Painting at the Monastery of Apa Apollo at Bawit, Egypt
• Andrea M. Achi, PhD, Assistant Curator in the Department of Medieval Art and the Cloisters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, presenting Ivory gods in late antique Africa: The multiple lives of wood and ivory boxes with mythological motifs and the curious case of a Nubian chest
