Art Spiegelman’s Maus, one of the most celebrated and critically acclaimed graphic novels of all time, was recently removed from the McMinn County (Tennessee) 8th grade curriculum because of "its unnecessary use of profanity and nudity and its depiction of violence and suicide." The decision has garnered a great deal of attention beyond McMinn County, and inspired conversations about intellectual freedom, racism, antisemitism, and how we talk to young people about difficult topics. Join Dr. Gavriel D. Rosenfeld, Professor of History and Director of the Undergraduate Program in Judaic Studies, and Curtis Ferree, Associate Dean of Public Services at the Library and Adjunct Faculty in the English Department, for a discussion of Maus and the current controvers
