Smishing Awareness

Smishing is the practice of sending phishing scams through SMS text messages, hence the term smishing. Malicious actors use a compelling text message to trick targeted recipients into clicking a link and sending the attacker private information or downloading malicious programs to a smartphone. Smishing attacks have increased by almost 700% since the beginning of this year and are responsible for billions of dollars in losses globally. The best way to protect against smishing is to avoid clicking links from random numbers and ignore spam text messages. It is also best practice to avoid storing banking information on your smartphone. Finally refrain from sending passwords, credit card numbers, ATM PINs, banking information, or any private information over a text message.
