Please join us for a lecture marking the 75th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials, "A History of Holocaust Trials: From Nuremberg to Demjanjuk and Back Again," delivered by Lawrence R. Douglas J.D., the James J Grosfeld Professor of Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought at Amherst College.

On October 19, 1946, the most famous of the post-World War II trials: the Trial of Major War Criminals, held at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, came to an end. Nineteen former Nazis were found guilty. Twelve were sentenced to death, one in absentia; the rest were given prison sentences ranging from 10 years to life behind bars. Seventy-five years later, Lawrence R. Douglas will discuss the Nuremberg Trial's legal, political, and historical significance. Douglas is the author of seven books, including The Memory of Judgement: Making Law and History in the Trials of the Holocaust (2001) and The Right Wrong Man: John Demjanjuk and the Last Great Nazi War Crimes Trial (2016).
