The perennial popularity of Lecuona’s “Malaguena” obscures the beauty and significance of his many other compositions. A talented pianist, he wrote more than 150 piano pieces as well as theater works, film scores, and songs. His music spans a broad range from multicultural Cuba; compositions from the late 1920’s through the 1950’s that highlight the Spanish and African roots of Cuban music.
This presentation will focus on his Afro-Cuban dances, as well as his lovely song “Why Must You Go?”
