Finley's Feet 5K

Fairfield University’s Fairfield Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies and Bridgeport Hospital Nurse Anesthesia Program Wellness Committee will host the inaugural Finley’s Feet 5K at Fairfield University in memory of Finley Maguire who passed away after her battle with brain cancer before her second birthday. Finley’s mother, Melanie, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Bridgeport Hospital and clinical faculty for the program. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the 5K at 10 a.m. on Lessing Field Track. A rain date for the event is October 24, 2021. 

Assistant Program Director Steven Belmont DNP, CRNA, APRN & Coordinator of Clinical Education Leigh Taylor DNP, CRNA, APRN said, “This is a very special event, as wellness is an important initiative within our Nurse Anesthesia Program. In the spirit of think globally, act locally, we chose an individual in our community to honor and raise awareness for the cause. Finley’s Feet 5K encapsulates this theme such that participants will honor her life and participate in a wellness event for themselves.  All donations are going to support this important cause.”

Proceeds from the 5K will be donated to “The Cure Starts Now,” a grassroots charity dedicated to pursuing cancer research on fronts that offer the most promise rather than fighting cancer by the numbers. They focus on cancers that are immune to treatment, cancers that affect children, and those with highest death rates. The Cure Starts Now has funded over $16.4 million in research, grants, and hospitals worldwide in partnership with DIPG Collaborative.
