CAE Back-to-School Workshops Open for Registration

Please join us for CAE’s Fall Back-to-School workshops, designed to help you integrate all we learned and continue to learn about adapting to teaching and learning as a community. Join us for any or all of our pedagogical workshops, drop-in help sessions, or writing time together. We will be joined by faculty and professional staff who will offer their expertise. Above all, we will continue to acknowledge the unique community of practice that will sustain us as we begin a new school year. Please remember to bring your mask!

From Breakout rooms to in-meeting chats to virtual whiteboards, Zoom offered us new opportunities for re-envisioning student engagement. Join us for a conversation reflecting on what we learned from using Zoom over the past 18 months — and how we might leverage the tool effectively moving forward in our face-to-face teaching environment. If you’re new to Blackboard - or if you’ve simply forgotten some of the basics over the course of the past 18 months - join the CAE and Academic Computing/ITS for this introductory session on getting starting with the Blackboard course management system.  Learn how to create assignments, quizzes, and tests; manage and automate grading; and comment on papers right on your screen (or even better, on your iPad with your stylus!).  Get all of your courses set to go for September - and for more specialized assistance, come back on Thursday for one-on-one consultations during Tech Drop-In hours. Register at https://form.123formbuilder.com/5975173/form

10:30 am - 11:45 am: Designing Digital Scholarship Assignments (Co-sponsored with the DiMenna-Nyselius Library)

Adding digital components to traditional course assignments can provide students with transferable digital skills and new perspectives on the potential of their own scholarship while introducing new classroom dynamics in which faculty and students learn and create together. However, digital assignments can be difficult to scaffold and evaluate in the course of a semester. This session will present ideas of digital tools that can be used to help explore increasingly complex digital assignment design as well as the benefits of pursuing digital assignments. Register at https://form.123formbuilder.com/5975036/form

1:00 pm -  2:15 pm:  Integrating Library Course Guides and Tutorials into Coursework (Co-sponsored with the DiMenna-Nyselius Library)

An introduction to the DiMenna-Nyselius Library’s suite of librarian-created tutorials, both static and interactive, as well as course guides tailored to meet the research needs of your students. Kick off the Fall semester "write"! Join the CAE and a community of colleagues for a day-long retreat on Friday, August 27, 10 am - 3 pm, to plan, begin, revise, or complete writing projects (e.g., manuscripts, books, reports, portfolios/dossiers). Consult with peers or CAE staff about any stage of your writing process, or use the time for some solo writing. Bring your writing materials and tools.
