Monday, August 24th

Writing Retreat - 10 am - 3 pm
Having trouble focusing on your writing?  You’re not alone. Join the CAE and a community of colleagues for a day-long retreat on Monday, August 24th, 10 am - 3 pm, via Zoom. Jump start your fall writing projects. Plan, begin, revise, or complete writing projects (e.g., manuscripts, books, reports, portfolios/dossiers). Consult with peers or CAE staff about any stage of your writing process, or use the time for some solo writing. Bring your writing materials and tools.

Thursday, August 27th

Workshop on Inclusive and Antiracist Classroom Practices - 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
The Social Justice Subcommittee of the Magis Core Curriculum Committee, the Faculty Chair for Inclusive Excellence/ Office of the Provost, and the Center forAcademic Excellence invite faculty to join us for this workshop where we will discuss the challenges, opportunities, and best practices for teaching social justice classes in this truly unique moment in our lives. 

Given the most recent instances of anti-black violence in the U.S., international protests, racial-ethnic disparities in the likelihood of contracting and dying from COVID-19, and the upcoming presidential election all faculty are likely preparing to discuss social justice issues in the classroom and beyond. All faculty are invited to join us for this workshop where we will discuss pedagogical strategies for equity, diversity, and inclusion that can be utilized across disciplines.

Drop in for one-on-one consultations for your questions about Kaltura, our new video streaming service. With Kaltura, faculty can now:
  • Continue embedding digitized feature films through a Shared Repository using the Kaltura mashup tool.
  • Upload and manage your own video content, including adding captioning in multiple languages (Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish are all currently supported for machine captioning)
  • Create video quizzes on any video in Kaltura or on YouTube, and integrate these quizzes with your grade center.

Supporting Students’ and Each Other’s Mental Wellbeing in the Age of COVID - 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
This workshop will describe common psychological responses to COVID; inform faculty of ways to differentiate student “distress” from “crisis”; provide brief instruction on strategies for interacting with students in distress; discuss the importance of self-care and effective coping strategies; and highlight mental health resources available to students, faculty, and staff. The workshop will be conducted by Mark Celano, Asst. Director and Director of Training, Counseling & Psychological Services
