Judges Sought for Poetry for Peace Contest
Date: 02-18-2020
Location: English Department
Volunteers are sought to act as judges in the University's annual Poetry for Peace contest. Now in its twelfth year, Poetry for Peace is one of Fairfield's most uplifting annual events, featuring poems written by students in kindergarten through eighth grade in the towns of Bridgeport and Fairfield who write poems in answer to the question "what does peace mean to me?" Judging the contest is a small commitment of time. Poems are distributed to judges electronically, and then judges meet once in February or early March to discuss submissions and pick winners. Then judges are invited to present the winners at a reading and launch we host on campus in early April--though attendance by all judges at the event is not necessary if it works a hardship.
It is a wonderful way to enact community on our campus, and to celebrate National Poetry Month.
