Indigenous Plants & Medicines Workshop

Led by

Shoran Wauptauquay Piper

Wednesday, November 12 | 6:00 pm  BCC – Lower Level

Golden Hill Paugussett Chieftess and Clan Mother Shoran Wauptauquay Piper will visit the Lower BCC to give a hands-on workshop about local native plants used as medicines and foods and the long history of Paugussett involvement with this landscape. The Golden Hill Paugussett Nation is based in Trumbull and Colchester, and Shoran grew up learning from the elders in her family. Her book, The Red Road, focuses on her Afro-Indigenous identity and corrects misconceptions about Indigenous culture. A gifted spiritual advisor, she is the daughter of Chief Big Eagle Piper, who was active in Indigenous rights all over the world. Today, her life’s work is to keep sacred traditions—including song, dance, stories, and spirituality teachings—alive.
