A soaring aerial dance performance, Noli Timere is the result of a five-year collaboration between Guggenheim Fellowship Award-winning choreographer Rebecca Lazier and world-renowned sculptor Janet Echelman. Eight multidisciplinary performers dance up to 25 feet in the air within a vast Echelman net sculpture, choreographed to an original score by French Canadian composer Jorane, who performs live on stage.
Blending contemporary dance, avant-garde circus, and sculpture, the performance explores the fragility and interconnectedness of our world. Meaning “be not afraid” in Latin, Noli Timere makes interconnectedness visible, showing how the smallest change can ripple across a system like the “Butterfly Effect.” Two massive net sculptures suspended by an intricate rigging system continually transform as performers fly and fall, creating a breathtaking interplay between movement and sculpture.
