Supplier Tariff Announcement

Tariff Charges on Goods Ordered

The recent tariffs imposed by the U.S. on goods sourced from other countries have resulted in an increase in costs for many of our vendors.  Some of our vendors have already made announcements detailing how they will be raising prices on goods they sell, to partially or completely pass that cost onto their customer.  More vendors are anticipated to do the same.  In fact, Fairfield University has already recently received some invoices that include either tariff line-item charges or flat percentage surcharges that apply to the entire order.

Budgets for all sorts of goods will be impacted, as costs for materials increase.  In order to capture these tariffs so that we can track and report their impact to our budgets, please note the following:

·      *   When soliciting quotes for goods, please request vendors display the tariff as a separate line item, and provide supporting documentation.  It may be prudent to look for a supplier who may not be passing on tariff costs or who has a lower price.

·        *   We ask that any anticipated tariff charge be itemized on its own Services line when creating a Requisition, and charged to the “tariff” spend category we recently created in Workday.

Tariffs are a fluid issue, and we do not know how long they will be in place, and at what levels.  Please direct any questions to Peter Perez, Brenda McDermott or Emma Ford in the Purchasing Dept.
