Join us for a Judy Lerner workshop sponsored by the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies

HONORING SHABBAT: A Weekly Delight for the Senses and the Soul

In this workshop, the second session on Shabbat, we will study rabbinic texts that expound the importance of honoring Shabbat and delighting in it through purposeful preparation, special dress, culinary delicacies, and joyful celebration.

"Remember/Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy...you shall not do any work.” The Torah does not explicitly define work but provides examples of activities prohibited on the Sabbath, including the kindling of fire and the gathering and preparing of food. We will explore how Shabbat evolved from a day of biblical prohibitions necessitating advanced food preparation into the celebratory day of rest, spiritual renewal, and delicious meals? Lunch will be served.
