“The American Catholic Experience 2024: Tensions that Test Our Communal Identity”

An election year fraught with extremely polarized views, a synodal process proposing models of ecclesial life that many welcome with eagerness while others seem to resist, and the ongoing social and cultural transformation of our faith communities have distinctively challenged today’s Catholics. Many worry about the preservation of communion in the midst of tensions and differences. Paradoxically, such tensions and differences are opening doors into fresher ways of being American Catholics, giving birth to new forms of communal life and amplifying our voice in the public square. After his October 2023 lecture on the broad themes of American Catholic Experience, award-winning Professor Hosffman Ospino returns to Fairfield to continue this exploration, now at a pivotal moment.
