Academic Planning Tools - Does this program support my academic field of study?

For semester/year programs, students typically enroll in 1-2 major or minor courses, 1-2 Core courses, and 1-2 electives. The actual course registration varies by student, depending on their own academic needs. Students utilize the Global Study Plan, an academic planning tool, to ensure that the coursework offered at the program abroad will advance them academically. Each program webpage or brochure page includes the Database of Approved Courses, which allows students to see approved course offerings and how they apply to their Fairfield Degree Evaluation.

Study Abroad Academic Guidelines

·       Students must be academically engaged in courses at a minimum of 4 days per week.

·       Students are expected to enroll in a minimum of 15 credits at an appropriate level of instruction and should typically enroll in 1-2 Core courses; 1-2 major or minor courses, and 1-2 Elective courses for their term abroad.

·       All students who participate in a non-English speaking country must enroll in a course related to language and/or culture. Some programs have a required language component which will be indicated on the program brochure page. The 3-credit internship satisfies the culture requirement.

Study Abroad Application Essay Questions

Students are asked to answer questions about the academics at the location abroad and how they will complement their Fairfield academic plan, how the experience will support their growth academically, professionally, and personally, and how they may tackle some of the challenges that come with studying and living abroad.

To assist students through the application process, Global Fairfield offers daily and weekly information sessions and daily walk-in advising opportunities. Many events have been scheduled with clubs, faculty and offices around campus. These are located on the Global Fairfield Life@ page.
