The Waide Center for Applied Ethics Seminar Series is a forum for building community and advancing research in Applied Ethics. It encourages jargon-free and supportive discussions that will be accessible to participants with interest in applied ethics and who come from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds. Events are held remotely (via Zoom) one or two Wednesday's a month from 4:00-5:30 P.M. and are open to all faculty, students, and community members. Invited speakers in the series present a work-in-progress or recently published paper on topics relevant to applied ethics. At least half of each meeting is devoted to Q&A and general discussion.

  • November 20: Richard T. De George (University Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, of Russian and East European Studies, and of Business Administration, and Co-Director of the International Center for Ethics in Business at the University of Kansas) Title: "Is Capitalism Morally Defensible?"
  • December 4: Marion Hourdequin (Professor of Philosophy at Colorado College & President of the International Society for Environmental Ethics) Title: "Climate Change, Geoengineering, and Risk"
Spring 2025
