Blackboard Ultra - Fall FAQs
To kick off the Fall semester, let's tackle some frequently asked questions…
How do I make my course available?
By default, your Blackboard courses are set as private from students, meaning they can see the course in their course listings but won’t be able to access the content. Even if you have prepared a course's content and consider it ready for student viewing, they will not be able to see it until you manually make it 'available' to them.
- Log in to Blackboard
- Navigate to Courses and find the course you want to make available
- From the courses page: Select More Options (...) to expand the options for that particular course, then select Open Course
- From within the course: Under Details and Actions, select Students can't access this course, then in the dialogue box select Open to Students
How can I view/print my course photo roster?
In addition to the main course roster, where you can add student accommodations, you can view the class photo roster to see your student’s ID images imported from Banner.
- Within your course and under Details and Actions, select Books & Tools.
- Select Class Photo Roster from the list of tools.
- Use your browser’s tools to print the file.
How will my students access digital courseware, like Pearson, Cengage, etc.?
If you are using publisher courseware, you must add the LTI link to your course for the publisher you are working with.
- Within your course, choose Add Content (+) and select Content Market from the drop-down menu
- In the content market, find the tool for your courseware
- Specific instructions to connect your Blackboard course to the publisher’s courseware vary by publisher. We’ve compiled some of the more popular publisher instructions here: https://fairfield-university.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ITSKB/pages/626360338/Connecting+Publisher+Content+to+Blackboard
How can I use Blackboard from a mobile device?
Since Blackboard Ultra Course View was designed to be fully responsive, you can access and engage with your courses using either any mobile web browser or the Blackboard Learn app.
Did you know the separate Blackboard Instructor app was retired in September 2022? The unified Blackboard Learn app allows students and instructors to engage with their classes from any device. As an instructor, you can use the app to create content, post announcements, grade student work, and more. Download Blackboard for iOS or Download Blackboard for Android.
