Cybersecurity Alert - CrowdStrike Incident and Phishing Warning
Dear Fairfield University Community,
On July 18, 2024, a CrowdStrike antivirus software update caused widespread crashes globally, affecting critical services in financial, healthcare, transportation, and other sectors, including several services in the Fairfield network. While ITS has remediated our affected systems, we urge vigilance against potential phishing attempts. Bad actors use situations like this to look for opportunities to exploit.
Please be cautious of suspicious emails, especially from your usual vendors, and check for fake addresses like "support@crowdstrike-updates.net." To stay safe:
- Verify sender addresses carefully. If unsure, contact the Help Desk at itshelpdesk@fairfield.edu.
- Avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from unexpected emails. Forward any suspected phishing emails to phishing@fairfield.edu.
Your awareness is crucial for our collective security. If in doubt, please contact the IT Help Desk immediately at (203) 254-4069.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping Fairfield secure.
Sincerely,
Information Technology Services Department
