New Faculty and Staff Guidelines for COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses

On March 1, 2024, the CDC updated its recommendations for preventing the spread of respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.  The CDC recommends that individuals with respiratory illnesses, such as COVID-19 or influenza (flu), stay home and away from others to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses.  The CDC guidance regarding isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 is as follows:
  • Individuals are no longer required to isolate from others for 5 days and may go back to their normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
    • Symptoms are getting better overall, and
    • The individual is fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • When returning to normal activities, individuals should take added precautions over the next five days, such as taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and/or testing before gathering with others indoors.
Employees who become ill with COVID-19 or another respiratory illness do not need to report it to Human Resources but should follow the CDC guidance described above.
