Exploring the Complexities of Asylum
On October 29th at 7:00 pm in the Dogwood Room, the Center for Faith and Public Life and the Office of Student Engagement will be co-hosting an event called Exploring the Complexities of Asylum. Students will be watching the documentary Hombres Nuevos, which follows Luis Mancheno, a young Ecuadorian who is forced to flee his homeland because of his sexual orientation and his journey as he pursues asylum in the United States and becomes an award-winning immigration lawyer in New York helping others to seek safety in the United States. A panel will follow with Shelov, Mancheno, and Lucrecia Iommi Garcia, assistant professor of politics and then will engage in a Q&A discussion.
